Self Directed Support means you are in control of the services you get. It means you choose what services are important to you with help from your family, friends and professionals who know you. With Self Directed Support you have your care, your way.
To have your care your way you need your own care plan. Your care plan is personal to your needs. The plan will say what care and services you need, what is important to you and what you want to achieve.
You choose your own care plan with the help of your carer, family, friends and social worker, or anyone you want.
Once you have your care plan you are given your own personal budget. Your personal budget is money to pay for your care. The amount of money you receive is worked out depending on what type of care you need.
Having Self Directed Support means you get to have your care, your way.
