People with learning disabilities often have more health needs than other people. They are more likely to have general health problems like bad eyesight or problems hearing, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and other physical disabilities.
People with learning disabilities are not always getting all the health care they need. This is because it can be difficult for people with learning disabilities to access the health care they need.
This might be because health care professionals are not always good at communicating with people with learning disabilities. Or people with learning disabilities or their families do not know what health checks they should have.
We have set up a health sub-group of the learning disability partnership to try and make communication and access to health care better.
NHS London asks Lambeth to report on how they are doing at making access to healthcare better for people with learning disabilities. Below is an easy read summary of how we were doing in 2009-10 and the full 2010-2011 report.
