Respite group

We have set up a respite group to look at creating more respite options locally.

a man with a suitcase going for a short breakCarers of people with higher needs including those with profound and multiple learning disabilities need respite. Respite is a break from caring which can be very tiring.

two carers, two people with learning disabilities and a council commissionerOur respite group is made up of carers and council commissioners, commissioners plan what services the council buys. They meet to discuss what type of respite is needed. We hope that these meetings will help to give families more respite options of the sort of respite carers want.

One thought bubble coming from two people thinking togetherWhilst this is a good thing and should make respite options better locally due to Government spending cuts there is not a lot of money for building more respite. This means we need to think creatively and find new ways of delivering respite.
