Shell helps local charities with generous donation

Charities in Lambeth received a boost this week with the news that Shell is committing £50,000 to the Lambeth Community Fund, which Lambeth First also supports and sponsors. With matched government funding, this will bring a total of £100,000 for organisations in the borough over the next two years.  “We hope this fund will provide a sustainable source of funding, targeted at organisations helping people who are out of work” said Sharon Lewis, Community Relations Manager for Shell.

The Lambeth Community Fund is an innovative venture to help individuals and companies to give back to the local area. The fund will support Lambeth’s voluntary sector now and long into the future - responding over time to the changing needs and hardships faced by local people.

Shell will be partnering with other companies, individuals and the government through this initiative, to ensure the funds reach those most in need. Donations to the Lambeth Community Fund are invested as an endowment with the interest used to make grants year on year. “Finding sustainable solutions is central to our business, so we are delighted to help create this permanent legacy for the local area” said Sharon.

Since it started twelve months ago, the Lambeth Community Fund has made 31 grants to local charities, community groups and social enterprises, ranging from £1,000 – £25,000.

Katharine Barber, Development Manager for Lambeth Community Fund, said “We are delighted that Shell has made this landmark gift. In the current economic climate, local charities supporting the unemployed are facing increasing demand for their services. The Lambeth Community Fund is an effective way for companies and individuals to help those most in need.”

Lambeth Community Fund is a valued partner of Lambeth First and is managed by the Capital Community Foundation, an independent charity serving London.  To learn more about the Lambeth Community Fund or to make a donation, please call 020 7582 5117 or visit www.capitalcf.org.uk/lambeth.
