The Lambeth Business Awards 2011 are under way and more than 100 local Lambeth businesses are hoping for your vote in order to become Lambeth's Favourite Business.
Forget Strictly, X Factor and Dancing on Ice, now is the time to make your vote really count by backing your favourite local business. If you know of a firm that has gone the extra mile you can make sure they don't go unrecognised.
Over 100 firms have already entered the competition and are displaying posters encouraging customers to vote for them but only you can make the difference. The winner will be the local business with the greatest number of genuine customer votes.
Currently leading the race in terms of votes cast to date, is Streatham Hill family-run restaurant, Bar 61, which counts celebrities such as Dancing on Ice contestant Vanilla Ice and Family Affairs Richard Hawley among its fans. However its owner, Metin Ahmet, rather modestly admits he doesn't know how he can have made the lead so far. "We haven't even put up our poster yet" he admitted, "but our customers really value our service, it's very personal. We believe that we are inviting all our customers into our house, and that kind of welcome is rare in London".
Lambeth's Favourite Business is one of 12 categories that make up the Lambeth Business Awards. Now in their fourth year, the awards are organised by Lambeth First and Lambeth Council, and made possible by sponsorship from organisations which include NHS Lambeth, London South Bank University, Lambeth College and Veolia. South London Press is the awards media partner.
You can vote for your favourite business by texting the business' unique number displayed on their poster to the shortcode text number 60777 (texts cost £1.50 plus your standard network rate); you can vote for as many businesses as you like but only your first vote for each business will count. Votes must be in by 5pm on Friday 24 January. The winner will be announced on 24 March.
