Young and Safe: Young People and Violent Crime Strategic Action Plan 2008 - 2013

Friday 19 September 2008

This is a strategic action plan to radically reduce the incidence of serious violent crime amongst young people in Lambeth.

The Young and Safe Action Plan is the culmination of intensive work which started with the Lambeth Executive Commission on Children, Young People and Violent Crime and resulted in the ‘leading through action summit’ in February 2008.

Lambeth First, the Local Strategic Partnership for Lambeth, is already carrying out a lot of work that deals with issues that are related to this plan, examples of this include tackling teenage pregnancy and raising attainment in schools.

However the purpose of this plan is not to be a list of all the projects and activities that are being carried out by the partnership, but rather to focus directly on addressing the problems of young people’s involvement in gangs and serious crime.

A consultation phase was conducted from March 14 to April 18, 2008 with the community and key stakeholders engaged and the Strategic Action Plan was submitted to Cabinet in July.
