Lambeth First is celebrating after being shortlisted as a finalist in the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards 2009, in the category of Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) of the year.
The announcement has come after 12 months of significant achievements for the partnership and three Lambeth First board representatives are now preparing for the next stage of the competition - a 30 minute presentation and question and answer session with a judging panel on 5 December.
Lambeth First chair Steve Reed, who will represent the partnership at the presentation along with community advocate Zaia Merabet and Chair of the Lambeth PCT Caroline Hewitt, said the shortlisting was a fantastic achievement for the borough.
“The LGC Awards celebrate and reward every aspect of local government and we are very honoured and excited to be shortlisted as a finalist in the LSP category,” Councillor Reed said.
“Organisers have advised us that there were a superb number of entries this year, so being noted, among a field of other successful and pro-active LSPs, is testament to all the day in, day out work that people are doing across the borough.
“This reflects the incredible amount of work that’s gone on across the partnership through our many initiatives such as Team Around the Child, Gracefield Gardens and the Community Learning Programme.
“We were also one of the first LSPs in the country to create a dedicated five-year action plan targeting the issue of young people’s involvement in serious violent crime.”
This is the first year that Lambeth First has entered in the LGC Awards, which attracts entries from all over the UK in every relevant discipline from legal services to health and wellbeing.
The winners of the LGC Awards will be announced at a gala dinner on 25 March 2009.
