The Lambeth Mental Wellbeing Programme was launched on the 13th of November at the Lambeth Academy. The programme is about the preventive work which is needed to improve the wellbeing of all people living and working in Lambeth. It is about changing culture and mindset to think about wellbeing as an outcome.
The emphasis of the programme is on outlines areas which affect everybody’s wellbeing, including good parenting programmes, opportunities for people to have meaningful social contact, promoting healthy lifestyles and getting people to feel they have a voice in local decision making.
More than 55 people attended the launch including Cllr Lorna Campbell, Member of the Lambeth First Board, Caroline Hewitt the Chair of NHS Lambeth and Dr Ruth Wallis. Director of Public Health, NHS Lambeth. Guests were entertained on arrival by music from Youtuba
Speaking from the event, Lambeth First Director Ian Jackson said “it is encouraging to see the Lambeth Mental Wellbeing Programme launched.”
“We are really excited by this new Programme and our thanks go to all who are so enthusiastically involved,” Mr Jackson said.
People at the event also heard from Nina Mguni from the Young Foundation, a think tank working on wellbeing as well as Jon Parke from Government Office for Science, co-author of the Foresight report 'Mental capital and resilience'. There was also a performance from actor and service user Matthew Ward.
Councillor Rachel Heywood, Cabinet Member for Culture and Communities closed the event with a powerful personal account which demonstrated why this programme is so fundamental to what we are trying to achieve in Lambeth.
